
CELEBRATING COLORED PENCIL Keller Town Hall 1100 Bear Creek Parkway, Keller, Tx November 2 - 27, 2009 Part One - THE COMPETITION
Awards will be presented at the Artists' reception which will be Thursday, November 12th from 7pm to 9pm. Refreshments will be provided by the Sanford Corporation.
Awards are as follows:
Best in Show $400 First Place: $300 Second Place: $200 Third Place: $100
The Entry Fee for Part One - The Competition is $25 for DC 215 members and $30 for non-members on a per artist basis up to three pieces. Three pieces may be submitted per artist. If there is insufficient space to display all pieces received to exhibit, artists with three pieces will have first and second preferences only displayed. Arrangements will be made with the artist for return of the piece that is eliminated SPECIFICATIONS for THE COMPETITION
- Artwork must have been executed within the last 3 years.
- Concept, design and execution of the artwork shall be that of the artist. No images produced by drawing over a digital reproduction allowed. No prints. No collaborations.
- Artwork entered into the CPSA DC215 2008 Art Exhibit is eligible for entry IF the piece did not win an award in that competition.
- Artwork to be considered for awards must be colored pencil ONLY! Use of any other media (watercolor, acrylic, oil, ink, etc.) or artist prepared surface disqualifies entry.
- Acceptable additions: solvents (e.g., turpentine) and graphite pencil used under/between/over layers.
- Artwork must be two dimensional on a single surface. No collage or montage.
- Recommended framing and matting consistent with CPSA is preferred: Mats "should" be white, off-white, tan, gray or black: we recommend you choose frames that are simple in design (no ornately carved wooden frames)."
- Framed size cannot exceed 32 X 40 inches.
- Artwork must be ready to hang by wire—no sawtooths. Hangers must be loops, on each side of the back and close to the top of the frame. Plexiglas only. Absolutely NO glass or "clip on" frames.
- Information on submitted entry form, size and price cannot be changed.
- All artwork must be "family appropriate". NO nudes or unacceptable language in piece of art will be accepted. No sexual, bloody or violent content allowed. Therefore the content of exhibits must be suitable for general audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
- All artwork must be framed and/or ready to hang.
- Any piece that may cause a safety issue to employees or citizens, as determined by city staff, will not be allowed. (i.e. too heavy)
- Keller Arts Board has final approval of all art exhibits submitted.
- Place a label on the back of each piece you are exhibiting listing the following information (see Labels section below).
Part Two - THE SHOWCASE This is an exhibit only of artists' work. No awards will be presented. The Entry Fee for Part Two - The Showcase is $10 on a per artist basis up to two pieces. SPECIFICATIONS for THE SHOWCASE - Any and everything colored pencil qualifies for the Showcase. Artwork will just be shown -- "NOT" judged and "NO" awards will be given in this part of the show. If you have one or two pieces you'd like to show but for some reason do not qualify for The Competition you may enter your work in Part Two. For example:
- Artwork that is over three years old which would make it ineligible for The Competition, you may enter The Showcase.
- Artwork that won an award in the CPSA DC215 2008 Art Exhibit, you may enter The Showcase.
- Artwork you created from reference material that was a stock photo, an image from the internet, or other copyrighted image, you may enter The Showcase.
- Artwork that is mixed media. Note, for mixed media pieces, they must contain some colored pencil.
- Artwork entered in The Showcase may be sold. A 20% commission of the sale price will go to Keller so price it accordingly.

HIGHLIGHTED INFORMATION FOR BOTH PARTS OF THE SHOW - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
1. ENTRY FORMS AND PAYMENT Entry forms and payment for both parts of the show must be post marked no later than 10/24/09. See the Entry Documentation Requirements section below for details. Note, the City of Keller also requires a signed Waiver of Liability form, a Monthly Show Guidelines form, and information on the artist. See the City of Keller section below for details. These forms can be submitted along with the delivery of the artist's artwork for the show.
2. LABELS A label must be included on each artwork submitted. Please make the words at least 1/2 in high.
- Whether the piece is for the COMPETITION or the SHOWCASE.
- Title of the work
- Name of the Artist
- Media and price or NFS.
3. PERMISSION AND COPYRIGHT By submitting an entry, the Artist grants permission for CPSA DC 215 and the Keller Arts Board to use an accepted image in its newsletter, on its web site, on brochures and promotional materials, and for articles about the show.
The artist hereby certifies that he or she holds the copyright for this material and the copyright remains with said Artist. CPSA DC 215 will display a notice that material must not be "downloaded" or copied, but will not be held responsible if artwork is copied. The Artist also certifies that the work submitted is original and does not infringe on any existing copyright. If artwork includes image of person, artist certifies that a model release has been obtained. If artist uses copyrighted material owned by another person, a copy of written permission to use the material must be submitted with entry material.
4. HAND DELIVERY & SHIPPING - All artwork hand delivered should be bubble wrapped or in a box to protect the frames.
- Art work may be hand delivered either Saturday (October 31) and/or Sunday (November 1) between 1 pm and 5 pm. The library staff will be happy to receive your artwork at the counter downstairs on Saturday or Sunday. There will be carts available to place your art work on, so it should be no problem. Or you may deliver your work as previously scheduled, on Monday (November 2) between 8 and 10 am. Artwork will only be accepted on one of these three days.
- Pieces may not be removed or replaced without prior consent and coordination of the City.
- Artwork will be hung, in a timely manner, by City of Keller Staff only. (ID cards will be provided by City). Remember, however, you must place a label on the back of your work listing whether the piece is for the COMPETITION or the SHOWCASE along with the title of the work, your name, media and price or NFS.
- All artwork must be picked up by 5:00 p.m. on the last day of show.
SHIPPING: FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO LIVE OUT OF TOWN - Artists are responsible for shipping expenses, shipping and/or delivering art work to and from the exhibition. Artwork must be shipped in sturdy reusable cartons.
- Artwork arriving in unsuitable boxes will be returned COD and disqualified from the exhibit. Shipping insurance is highly recommended.

5. LIABILITY Every precaution is taken to protect the artwork. The Keller Arts Board and CPSA DC 215 will not be responsible for any work damaged during shipping, delivery, hanging, exhibition, take down or delivery back to the artist. The Keller Arts Board and CPSA DC 215 do not carry insurance on the artwork. The Artist will be responsible for any insurance.
6. SALES Artwork may be priced FOR SALE or NOT FOR SALE. No change in price is permitted after submitting an entry. Artwork must be available for the duration of the exhibit.
Art Show Chairpersons provide Artist contact information to prospective purchasers. Any artwork sold requires a 20% purchase price fee paid to the City of Keller for designation to the Public Arts Fund. The artist is responsible for paying the City of Keller. Arrangements will be made for the purchaser to take possession of the art when the exhibit and payment are completed.
The individual Artist is required to report sales and submit the proper tax amounts to the State Tax Comptroller for artwork sold while on display. The City of Keller is not responsible for the reporting of these sales.

Accepted entries will include: completed and signed entry form, completed and signed form(s) for the City of Keller (due with delivery of the artwork) and entry fee(s). Note, if you are entering both parts of the show a separate entry form is required for each part. Please make your payment by check made payable to CPSA 215.

They can be turned in on the day you bring our work. For those of you who will be shipping your work, you will need to fill out the required information, sign the forms and put them in your shipping box, or if you prefer, you can mail them to: Linda Hardy, 510 Scott St., Omaha, TX 75571.
As part of the City of Keller requirements, you will need to tape a label on the back of each piece that should include the following information:
Title of the work Name of the Artist Media and price or NFS.
